POND GARDEN
CANNETSFONTEIN FARM | WELLINGTON
This farm garden, which is situated in the foothills of the Bainskloof Pass just outside Wellington, was designed in 2022 and implemented in the following two years. The area is known for its fertile soils, but also for extreme heat and wind in summer, and the planting was designed to thrive in these extreme conditions.
A variety of indigenous and Mediterranean shrubs and perennials were used, providing much-needed greenery and colour in the very hot summer months, while plants like Anastrabe integerrima, Rhagodia hastata and Searsia crenata are shaped in smaller groups among the perennials to provide structure during the cold winter months.
The garden was designed as a series of rooms, with the rolling lawns and pond garden connecting the more formal spaces.
