ENDEMIC SCHOOL GROUNDS
GREEN SCHOOL | PAARL
The client brief for the seven hectare landscape surrounding Green School South Africa in Simondium, was to create a space in which the students can experience creative learning, through the wonders of nature, a sense of the natural environment and their role in it.
The garden was designed to create magic and interest by shaping what was previously flat farmland into undulating berms, covered walkways, informal pathways, edible gardens and areas of wilderness that constantly surprise and delight. The planting is largely endemic, enlivening biodiverse habitats, interspersed by smaller pockets of edible gardens between the buildings, where permaculture principles are followed. Today, the garden is a thriving ecosystem, where education is enhanced by children engaging with nature as part of their daily lives.
