CITY GARDEN
PRIVATE RESIDENCE | OBSERVATORY, CAPE TOWN
Located in the heart of Observatory in Cape Town, this garden is typical of a farm garden with plant choices to complement the architecture of the historical buildings. A take on the idea of a plant collector’s garden, the space is a playful celebration of local plant species, including those with high textural qualities like Aloes, Pin Cushions, local Cotyledons and Crassulas. Informal clay herringbone tiles and laterite walkways further reinforce the idea of a ‘novice’ gardener’s garden.
It also serves as a space for the client to display contemporary South African art, for which the garden creates a foil, and an interesting visual dialogue between the magpie qualities shared by the art collector and the plant collector.
