NATURE GARDEN
SPIER FARM | STELLENBOSCH
Driven by the client’s commitment to sustainability and a shared passion for the natural landscape, this garden celebrates the unique ecology of the Cape’s renosterveld. Designed using 100% endemic plant species, the landscape responds to the site’s seasonally wet conditions, seamlessly connecting the homestead with its surrounding environment.
Every plant was grown from locally sourced seed or carefully propagated by Wilton Sikhosana to create an authentic, resilient planting palette that reflects the natural character of the region. The design works with ecological processes, allowing the landscape to evolve and express itself through the seasons.
A tapestry of indigenous grasses, flowering perennials and geophytes creates a constantly changing display. Spring bulbs emerge through textured grasslands, followed by layers of seasonal colour, seed heads provide year-round interest. This dynamic planting supports a rich diversity of birds, pollinators and other wildlife, transforming the garden into a thriving habitat.
The result is a landscape deeply rooted in place, immersive, resilient and alive with seasonal change, birdsong and the natural rhythms of the Cape.
