FLOWER GARDEN
PRIVATE FARM | FRANSCHHOEK
Inspired by the client’s and interior designer Dominic Touwen’s appreciation for the romance and seasonal richness of traditional English gardens, this landscape reinterprets the flower garden within a contemporary Mediterranean framework suited to the Cape climate. The design blends timeless planting principles with a climate-responsive approach, creating a garden that is both rooted in tradition and aligned with sustainable local practices.
Designed to reach its peak in summer and late summer, when the farm is most actively enjoyed, sweeping drifts of flowering perennials in soft pinks, purples and whites create layers of colour, texture and movement. The seasonal planting creates a sense of abundance and continuity throughout the garden.
Spanning over two hectares, the garden unfolds as a series of interconnected spaces, with meandering paths, framed views, intimate seating areas and hidden corners inviting exploration.
